specify the desired number of glasses to be polished, then complete the ordering process using your preferred payment method. You will then receive a free shipping label from us. Please use this to send us your glasses.
The glasses are inspected in our workshop. Here, we check whether there are any existing cracks or similar damage. This is a reason for exclusion from having your valuable glasses polished. This is because the polishing machine exerts pressure on the glass during the process, which can cause the glass to shatter. If everything is in order, our work begins and we polish the glassware, restoring it to an acceptable condition. It makes no difference whether you purchased the glass from Arnstadt Kristall or another supplier. Our specialists also polish vases, bowls and glass plates. The procedure is always the same.
After the glasses have been sanded, they are professionally cleaned and polished. This restores their original shine and charm.
They are then well padded, insured against loss due to theft up to €500.00 per parcel, and returned to you free of charge. If there are too many glasses that we have polished for you, we will divide them into several parcels due to the parcel insurance.
What are the risks involved in polishing crystal glasses?
The first risk is shipping. Unfortunately, we have no control over how you pack the glasses or how the carrier handles the shipment. However, we can provide you with recommendations on how to pack the glasses.
- Each individual glass must be covered with a layer of padding; we recommend bubble wrap. However, crumpled newspaper will also do the trick, which you can secure with a rubber band
- We recommend placing cardboard strips between the individual glasses to prevent them from knocking against one another
- No glass item should be less than 5 cm from the edge of the parcel; the more space, the better. This is for protection in case the parcel is dropped or something falls on it.
- And last but not least, we recommend filling with polystyrene flakes
Where do you source the packaging materials? Either reuse packaging from another parcel you’ve just received, or spend a few euros at a DIY store. Most items are available in smaller packs there.
The second risk, of course, lies with the glass cutter. As a general rule, only trained glass cutters should cut your crystal glasses. We take the necessary time for every single glass. Without stress or time pressure, we approach the grinding of your glasses with the utmost care. Nevertheless, our glass grinders are only human. As many of the glasses sent to us do not originate from Arnstadt Kristall, we do not know the density of each individual glass. Therefore, it ‘can’ happen that your glass breaks during grinding due to excessive stress. However, our breakage rate is 0.2%. That means 2 out of every 1,000 glasses. Of course, this is only an average, but the number of crystal glasses that remain intact during grinding speaks for itself.
